Leeds Marathi Mitra Mandal

Leeds is the third largest city in the United Kingdom. After London, Leeds is the largest financial centre in the UK. Leeds is a vibrant city with diverse culture. There were very few Maharashtrians living in the Leeds. Post 2001 Marathi speaking people were noticeable in the Malls, Supermarkets, Trains and Buses. Over the years many Maharashtrian families migrated to Leeds. They were eager to meet other Maharashtrian families and make more friends.

With the thought of bringing Marathi speaking people together, promote and preserve heritage, culture, values of Maharashtrian society; few like-minded families came together and started Leeds Marathi Mitra Mandal (LMMM) on 16-January-2016 to celebrate Makar Sankranti.  

 

LMMM is a non-profit organisation, it aims to preserve Maharashtrian art, music, culture, heritage, etc.  and educate next young generation with Indian tradition. We promote Marathi Music, Skits, Drama, etc. through its gatherings and workshops. LMMM has created a strong presence on Whatsapp and Facebook which offers a social platform to its members to help each other, discuss issues that are close to their heart, undertake various activities for charitable cause.

LMMM wish to take a lead to preserve and celebrate Marathi Heritage and Culture with your help and support. We welcome Marathi speaking people of all age ages living in the UK. We encourage to actively participate in the regular socio-cultural programmes.

• Maharashtra, a state of India

• Marathi people, is a group of Indians that inhabits in the Maharashtra region, whose first language is Marathi and/or whose has family links are with Maharashtra state

• Marathi language, is a part of the southern group of Indo-Aryan languages
